Sky High For Development
August 2, 2010 No CommentsMayor Melton Cotton of Greenbrier joined Chamber Of Commerce Executive Director Amie Regester for an early morning flight over the city of Greenbrier last month in order to monitor areas of new growth. The plane, a single engine Cessna 172, was flown by pilot and chamber member Darren Carlton (Capture That Photography).
The purpose of the flight was to see the city from the air and get a better feel for how Greenbrier is laid out. The two requested to be flown over Guy, Shady Grove and Wooster to look at new buildings and potential development areas. “I have lived in Greenbrier for years now–I went to high school here–and I still didn’t have the big picture on how close we are to our surrounding communities”, said Regester. “I asked the Mayor to come along because I knew he would be able to point out some of the buildings or businesses I wouldn’t recognize.”
With Greenbrier’s year 2000 population number already enrolled in Greenbrier Public Schools this year, (3,050 students, according to Superintendant Scott Spainhour) it is fairly obvious that Greenbrier will continue to grow. “We have the privilege of shaping that growth,” says Regester. “This is the time to define our vision and to work with city officials, educators and businessmen and women to plan for the Greenbrier we want to leave to the next generation. The plane ride was just research for building the vision.”
