Greenbrier back-to-school breakfast for teachers
August 24, 2010 No CommentsGREENBRIER— Monday was definitely teachers’ day in the Greenbrier Public Schools as the Greenbrier Chamber of Commerce hosted its annual Back-to-School Breakfast to show appreciation to all the teachers in the District. Instead of ringing bells for the start of classes, teachers from all the schools gathered at 7:30 for breakfast in the Greenbrier High School. McDonald’s, Sonic, and Oaks Brothers hosted the good food with scrambled eggs, biscuits and gravy, sweet rolls, bacon and sausage, juice, and fresh fruits.
There was a lot of laughter and animated conversation going on in this special fun atmosphere as teachers were eager to see each other, renew old friendships, compare summers, and talk about the coming year. Cross Point Baptist church and Church of the Nazarene volunteers helped serve the over 150 excited teachers.
Every year the Greenbrier Chamber business owners help make this a fantastic event welcoming back all the teachers by providing door prizes for them after their breakfast. This year 49 businesses were present to help make this extra special. Teachers were able to sign up for gifts, as well as pick up special discount coupons for things like massages, chiropractic consultations, jewelry, flowers, and all kinds of discounts on everything from estate planning visits to school supplies. It was a crowded room on the gym floor as teachers moved from table to table collecting goodies like apples, bananas, cookies, and candies as well as calendars, pens, pencils, and notepads. Many of the business owners were there in person to talk with the teachers and say “Thanks”.
Amie Regester, Chamber of Commerce Executive Director, said, “I am really pleased with the turnout this year…….The business community is so supportive of our education system. People in Greenbrier really understand the connection between strong education, community development, and thriving commerce. I look forward to partnering with Greenbrier Schools again.”
Scott Spainhour, Superintendent, had nothing but praise for the success of the Greenbrier School District and their high standings, based on the efforts of all the fine teachers. He is eagerly anticipating the opening of the new school year this week and, especially, the new Greenbrier Middle School—a brand new state-of-the-art building that was completed on time.
