The Chamber Celebrates Kona Ice, August Business of the Month

Since 2011, Kona Ice has been keeping Greenbrier and surrounding communities cool. Owner, Richard Weaver boasts that Greenbrier has the distinction of having the longest operating Kona Ice franchise in Arkansas, and one of the oldest in the country. You can find over 1300 franchises across the United States. Locally, Richard serves greater central Arkansas (North Little Rock, Greenbrier, Conway, Pine Bluff and El Dorado.)

“I wanted to be in control and be my own boss!” He shares. When deciding to make this investment he decided that making his own schedule, and not having anyone to answer to; other than his own customers has its perks. Richard is a member of 6 different chambers across the state and finds it extremely rewarding to give back to those communities that he serves. He contributes some of his success to being active in those communities and being engaged with their local chambers and various events. He adds, “When you see us at the ballpark or schools, just know that we are giving a percentage of our proceeds back to that organization.” Over the past 12 years, Kona Ice has given over $30,000 back the youth sports programs in Greenbrier.

When asked if he had any advice to anyone considering taking a risk and opening a small business, he shares, “You just have to do it! Research your idea to see if it truly is a good fit for your community.” For more information on how Kona Ice can be a part of your next event, follow them on social media, Kona Ice of Conway and Saline, email Richard at rweaver@konaice.com or call 501-679-1582.

The chamber is excited to celebrate Kona Ice as our August business of the month and will be hosting a Back to School Bash at Matthews Park, August 24th from 5 to 7. This free event will feature hot dogs, popcorn, cotton candy, and a bounce house provided by the Pentecostal Church of Greenbrier.
